My Happy Thoughts

self portraits, made by the children in art

The past couple of weeks have also been a time where I've really dug into school once again. I don't know about other homeschoolers, but I must say that it really ebbs and flows from time to time. Here lately, there's been a lot of ebb. BUT, I'm into the flow again. More fun things to learn, fun things to do....I love it once more. Besides, when I can really focus on my kids that are here with me, it makes me have happy thoughts. I'm so glad to have children to hug and cuddle and snuggle during this time. They are are mine and have been for a while now. And I love being their mommy. And I always will. So what's going on at our school?

Elementary Chemistry -- protons, neutrons, electrons, atomic number, etc. I must say, playdoh and bubbles and balloons make it so much more interesting!

A Week In Ancient Africa With Anansi and African Paper Beads
Daniel's learning that the "Kentucky" way of talking that has been passed on for generations ;~) is improper. So we don't say "pass me that there grammar book." No siree, that is not the way we talk in these here parts, ya'll.
And when we're not having school, the kids are having school and they don't even realize it :~) Like yesterday...our first snowflakes of the season. You can't really see them in the picture, but they were huge. And according to the kids, gorgeous. They kept examining them up close until they would melt, and then run inside and draw what they saw. Neat, huh?
And this...this is quite interesting, folks. Avery studied frogs and toads a couple of weeks ago. We've moved on to birds, but she found frogs intriguing. She pretty much finds all animals intriguing, but anyway...she was still stuck on frogs. SO, she comes up to me the other day with her dad's retractable measuring tape. She made it a frog. And the measure part is the tongue. And she kept making it retract. THEN, she went and found a hair clippy. That would be the fly. Genius, I tell ya ;~)

And speaking of happy thoughts, we are currently reading Peter and the Starcatchers outloud in the evenings. So far, lots of laughs and it's holding our interest. Fun.

Tonight for supper, we're having BORSCH. Daniel's been in Russia for history all week, so we're making it authentic. Well, Romanian Borsch, but close enough. Authentic ingredients and all...and a loaf of homemade bread to boot.

The kids have worked very hard up until now on school work and we're ahead of the ballgame in so many ways. Next week, we're taking it easy. They'll do math, reading, and Thanksgiving studies until Wednesday, and then it's TURKEY TIME. :~)

Ha! That Avery is somethin' LOL Love the frog and fly :grins:

Yep, I hear ya on the ebb and flow of homeschooling. We're ready for a break here. My plan was to break between units but we really needed to press on with unit 1 ending so close to Thanksgiving..when I had planned time off. So, we have pressed on this week. Next week is easy though, with a bit of catch up since we just got in books we needed 3 weeks ago, nothing major though. :)

Anywho...hoping to be refreshed. I very much miss my passion for schooling *sigh*
