Avery's working toward badges in a homeschooling club called Keepers at Home. She loves it! She's very domestic. She's currently working on her baking badge. She must make, from scratch, a pie, cobbler, cookies, yeast bread, dessert bread, and cake. So far, she's made cookies and yesterday, a delish apple pie!
We used Sugar Pie Farm House Pat-a-Pan Pie Crust Recipe. Easy for kids and Mom! It ended up tasting great, too!
Avery "skinned" the apples. She loves to "skin" stuff.
Then, we followed the Apple Crumb Pie Recipe found here. It was by far, the best apple pie recipe we've EVER made. It wasn't runny. It was WONDERFUL. We only improvised a bit by adding about 2/3 cup sugar instead of 1/2 cup, and we used apple pie spice instead of nutmeg and cinnamon seperately. Maybe the sour cream was the secret recipe??
Momma loves being Avery's helper.
And out comes a beautiful apple pie, made by a beautiful girl!
Don't forget clean up time. At one point she was getting "skins" on the floor and I told her to be careful, we didn't want to be messy cooks. She said, "What? Good cooks are messy cooks, mom!"
She was so proud of her pie. She served it up to her guests last night very sweetly. Daddy said he wished she had made two. :~)
