The Weekend Snippets

We spent Labor Day Weekend in Western Kentucky visiting with Mamaw, Papaw, and Mamaw Smith. The kids loved their little time in the country and are now seriously longing for country life. I have to hand it to 'em. I am too!
They rode the 4 wheeler and managed to round up some goldenrod for Daniel's Kentucky Book. They went fishing (and they were BOTH ecstatic to go fishing...they do NOT get that from me) and caught quite a few, ranging from bass to blue gill. They made new friends (that were actually old friends from toddler hood) and went frog hunting in the pitch dark with nothing but a flashlight. They caught many a frog, including a TREE FROG, I must add. Apparently he was very fine to look at. Daniel shot and hit a target with his friend's bow (and guess what is on his Christmas list now??) Yay for country livin'!

We visited with Mamaw Smith. It's always a treat to sift through her photo albums and such. This time around, I sifted through her postcards and she let me have a few. One in particular was of the Wooldridge Monument. The card dates back to 1948 and it's an excellent post card of the monument in tact. After we visited with her, we head over to the monument's remains. The ice storm this year fell a tree and it destroyed the monument. We took photos of what's left, and now Daniel has another layout for his Kentucky book, including that very old postcard!

Pooooor Headless Mr. Woolridge. We stayed with Mamaw & Papaw D., which is always a treat.

She sent us home with cookies, home grown eggplant and okra, and an old recipe for Sour Dough starter. I always feel like cookin' and bakin' when I get back from her house. I guess that is what posessed me to take home a 5 GALLON BUCKET OF PEARS last night at the church picnic. Gonna get on making preserves this evening :~) I am an idiot.

I need something to do as I wait for our I600 appointment to be booked. Seriously folks. I have to give them until Friday to get back with me. It's SO hard to wait. I need to book our flights! Seriously! **Sigh** Hopefully, we'll hear something soon. PRAY! Also, if all went well, the D. family was able to visit with our Joshua today. Hopefully that happened and they were able to plant a kiss on his little cheek for me.

I love country livin'!

I shared this with Sarah and want to pass it along to you too. I used Golden Rule Travel for my flight to Ghana. They get discounts for adoption related travel and were really good to work with. It's at least worth a phone call.

Amanda, Did you schedule your I-600 appointment via e-mail? I have that contact info if you need it.

Love the pear thing. That is SO something I'd do. And they'd probably end up going bad... :(

Can you not call or email your USCIS office to tell them you have travel dates and getting a response from them now is imperative? I had a similar down-to-the-wire experience back at the beginning of our journey, and I was actually able to find someone to accommodate me at the last minute. Don't hesitate to be a squeaky wheel!
